Winding Down at Orientation
Meal times were always a lot of fun because it gave me a chance to get to know the other JETs better. Today at lunch I sat with some British and American JETs plus four other Wakayama JETs (well one is Lily`s bf so he is an honourary one).

After lunch, I went to three CLAIR workshops and our prefectural meeting. I choose workshops on Intermediate Japanese, Behind the Scenes at School and Driving in Japan. If I decide to buy a car over here, then the info from Driving in Japan will be put to good use. You can get a fairly good used car here for about $2000 Cdn. There are some extra expenses too with the cars like shaken and insurance plus gas and maintenance so I am not committing to purchasing a car until I see how things go at my placement. Intermediate Japanese was an alright workshop because it gave me some motivation to keep studying the language but being a little remote I won`t have many opportunities to attend a class. Wakayama City is within striking distance but I do not believe they have a suitable Japanese class for foreigners in terms of schedule and possibly level.
At the Prefectural meeting, we found out that we would be flying to Kansai International airport and more about shipping our baggage over to our contracting organizations. Also, we met the only Mexican JET in Japan, Paco. I later asked him if he teaches Spanish in Wakayama and he said he has a class on Monday nights so my hope of studying Spanish here is no longer a pipe dream. I was really glad to meet a staff member at the Prefectural Government as it meant that we were getting closer to actually get to our placements in Wakayama. After tomorrow, they would no longer just be places on a map, they would be our new homes.
