And Here's Your Passport...

A travel bug like myself hates to not have her passport at the ready so I was anxiously awaiting its return now outfitted with my Japanese work visa. Looking spiffy in my skirt suit, I entered the offices of the Consulate General of Japan and joined the 81 other JETs from Vancouver for our official pre-departure activities. I couldn’t help but admire my work visa. The first of many, I hope.

The meeting was short and sweet and we are good in hands with the travel agents and JET Programme staff giving us detailed and thoroughly outlined instructions for the travel to Narita and the arrival in Tokyo. I joined some of the participants on the shuttle to Shaugnessy for the party at the residence of the Consulate General of Japan in Vancouver. We were ushered to his garden where we had drinks and food while mingling with one another and alumni. Listening to the Consulate General’s speech confirmed the strong connections between JETs and BC and Japan and BC. Sister city relationships were especially highlighted. I am excited to be in the prefecture of Richmond’s sister city, Wakayama . A highlight for me was seeing the panel that interviewed me. Brimming with excitement from all of the talk of tomorrow and the upcoming year gave me much needed energy to deal with the last minute packing that awaited me at home.
